Parliament cigarettes came along the U.S. market in 1931 and are believed to be the first cigarettes to introduce the filter tip. The cotton was meant to keep a little of tobacco for the smoker not to smoke them. Parliament cigarettes have a very mild taste, although they are still strong. This is because the carefully developed balance to ensure soft and pleasant smoking.

Phillip Morris, who is the manufacturer of Parliament cigarettes is famous for large production technologies and thus there is no wonder Parliament cigarettes are so enjoyable to smoke. Cigarettes manufactured under the Parliament brand have several nicknames. Full flavors are sometimes called P-funks and the lights are P-lights. These derived from the name of the famous funk group P-funk. Hundreds, however, are offered in the U.S. and Canada only, as in Europe and CIS King Size variant is available only.

Parliaments are very popular mainly for their filtering system. While most of tobacco brands offer cigarettes with solid foam filters, every Parliament cigarette has a concave paper filter for better filtration and staining prevention. They featured a mouthpiece and the first filter tip: a wad of cotton, soaked in caustic soda to keep bits of tobacco out of the smoker's mouth. Smokers note that Parliament cigarettes filter is really great - it is more sturdy and it feels great on person's lips.

Full Flavor (Night Blue) are distinctive for their recessed paper filter. It occupies strong positions in Japan, Argentina, Israel, Turkey, Russia and USA. On the West of Europe, Parliament cigarettes are not very well-known.
